The Shenu is the original Egptian name for the oblong frame that encloses royal Egyptian names. Today, we use the word cartouche to refer to this frame--but cartouche is a French word given to the frame by Napolean's archeologists. They noted that the shape of the Shenus were similar to that of a bullet. Our lovely Shenu Cleopatra shows the queen of Egypt in one of her typical poses.
